Regulations Regarding Students’ Health

The American Medical Program of Tel Aviv University has instituted a procedure for the examination of a candidate’s and a student’s health. Following this procedure, the application of any unfit candidate can be declined. In the event that a student is found to be unfit following this procedure, his studies can be terminated. The full text of these regulations can be found in the Hebrew Catalog of the Faculty of Medicine.

Health Insurance

Tuition fees include Student Health Insurance coverage by CLAL-Health Insurance Co. It does not cover

  • preexisting conditions
  • work-related accidents
  • cancer
  • pregnancy
  • psychological and psychiatric treatments.

This coverage is valid only in Israel, the United States, and Canada.

Nonemergency medical check-ups may only be performed in Israel. Students who wish to have more inclusive insurance are advised to maintain the full health insurance coverage that they previously had in the U.S. In addition, it is recommended that students maintain some sort of continuity with an insurance program in the U.S. or Canada to ensure renewal of the full program, without any limitations, upon their return to the U.S. or Canada at the end of their studies in Israel.

Dental Treatment

Dental treatment is available at the School of Dental Medicine Clinic located adjacent to the Sackler building in room 117. The clinic is open from 8:30-10:00 AM, Sunday through Thursday. Its phone number is 03-6409551.

Non-emergency treatment rendered by students under supervision is also available. A dental hygienist is available for a fee. First aid is rendered free of charge, and non-emergency treatment is charged according to the price list published by the Histadrut Sick Fund.

Immunizations

The medical school provides students with all required immunizations. Students are obliged to follow the immunization procedure according to the timetable set by the school.

Students will not be able to participate in any clinical activities in the hospitals in Israel or in the U.S. unless they have completed their full course of immunizations. Proof of immunization plus the antibodies levels (titers) is a prerequisite for elective and residency training in most U.S. hospitals.
